For a truly unique birthday cake, Angie Scott Cakes took inspiration from Don’s favourite tipple and crafted a fully working – and edible – beer barrel, pub sign and beer mats.
The working beer barrel cake dispenses real beer from an edible barrel, holding a litre of beer, and features a light-up pub sign, wooden-effect fondant and personalised beer mats. Perfect for the real-ale lover.
Created for Don’s 80th birthday celebrations, Angie created an edible beer barrel cake, with a working tap to dispense a lovely pint of Adnams Bitter for the birthday boy. The barrel is sculpted from sponge cake, then covered with incredibly detailed fondant, designed and painted to look like the authentic real-ale barrels found in pubs nationwide.

Crafted from chocolate and icing, the illuminated pub sign offers an extra dimension of wow-factor to the cake, with an edible surround, detailed pub sign illustration and edible brick-style base. The illumination is made possible by strip lighting which adds a realistic effect to the sign.
The baseboard is decorated with a wooden-style finish to complete the authentic appearance and a couple of bottles of real-ale and some personalised beer mats finish the scene. With a personalised backdrop added at the venue, this cake offered Don a birthday surprise to remember.
